The Maine ACHCA Chapter has developed a mentoring program for its members. The program is designed to assist Administrators-In-Training (AITs) and new administrators by providing support from its more experienced members. While many organizations providing AIT training are able to provide the trainees with the support they need, some simply do not have the needed resources. In addition, when the AIT program is finished, the new administrator may find herself/himself in another facility without anyone to talk with when faced with new situations.
Members of the Maine Chapter who are Fellows and/or Certified Nursing Home Administrators will be paired up with those to be mentored (protégés) to work with them. The mentor will meet with the protégé to discuss plans, goals and objectives for the future, providing continuity for the protégé. The mentors will not interfere with the Preceptor/AIT or boss/subordinate relationship but will provide the protégé with someone who can provide advice and counseling outside of that relationship, giving them a “safe” informal sounding board.
